A Valentine of Maturity: Love Refined by Time

"From Blossoms to Evergreens: The Lifelong Valentine"

It's the month of February  - the month of LOVE. As a professor, it’s natural to see students, especially newly admitted ones, excited about Valentine’s Week. For them, it’s a time of sweet emotions, new friendships, and the joy of young love. Young ones try to make this a picture-perfect moment by having grand romantic gestures, extravagant gifts, heart-shaped chocolates, red balloons, fragrant flowers, and perfect candlelit dinners. Valentine’s Day can bring a mix of emotions—happiness for those in relationships, anxiety for those facing societal expectations, and even sadness for those feeling lonely.

However, as we grow older and gain life experience, our perspective towards love and relationships matures. While youthful love is often driven by passion and excitement, mature love is built on understanding, patience, and emotional depth. Maturity teaches that love is not about a single day of celebration but about consistency and commitment. A relationship built on emotional intelligence values communication over assumptions, compromise over ego, and gratitude over expectations. A mature perspective on Valentine’s Day allows people to celebrate in a meaningful way—valuing emotions over material things, understanding that true love is built on trust and communication, and recognizing that love extends beyond romance to friendships, family, and self-care.

It's just that very often the married couple, committed couple do not celebrate V-Day because they are well matured to understand the true meaning of Love!!!
