It’s that time of the year again—submission deadlines. The air is thick, not just with last-minute assignment printouts, but also with something louder and far more piercing: yelling.

It starts in classrooms. Teachers, already exhausted from piles of unchecked papers, are yelling at students—“Where is your project? I told you the deadline LAST week!” Heads of departments (HODs) are yelling at teachers—“Why aren’t the grades updated yet?” Meanwhile, the higher-ups, the Heads of Institutions (HOIs), are yelling at the HODs—“Why is there chaos? Why aren’t things in order?”

And just like that, the chain reaction spreads beyond academics:

  • Customers yell at drivers for taking the wrong route.

  • Customers yell at waiters for cold food.

  • Managers yell at employees for missing targets.

  • Parents yell at kids for not studying.

  • Kids yell at parents for not understanding.

  • Shopkeepers yell at suppliers for delayed stocks.

  • Neighbors yell at each other for loud music.

  • Sports coaches yell at players for missed goals.

The yelling never stops; it only shifts from one person to another, like an infinite loop of frustration. But here’s the thing—does yelling really solve anything?

Breaking the Chain

Amidst all this noise, maybe what we really need is a pause. A deep breath. A moment to step back and realize that everyone is struggling in their own way. Instead of passing down stress like a relay baton, how about breaking the chain with understanding?

A simple “It’s okay, let’s figure this out” can work wonders. A little patience, a little kindness, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll replace the sound of yelling with the sound of solutions.

Deadlines will come and go, but the way we handle them? That’s what truly defines us. So, take a deep breath, and let’s replace the yelling with helping.
